Thanks for stopping by, Andy. I know that there are a bunch of choices for SMPRs, not only PitchEngine. Curious whether your template also offers analytics or advanced clickthrough tracking of the social media elements?

PitchEngine is indeed a trail blazer and has set the standard in social media news release creation and publishing. Another similar service here in the UK which is also free is called Pressitt: http://pressitt.com/

Pressitt allows you to create and publish a rich multimedia asset-assisted news release. Your release acts as a hub of information, giving journalists, bloggers, and your online community more information to easily research your brand.

The Pressitt SMNR template offers all of the core information found in a traditional press release, but additionally takes advantage of linking, multimedia and Web 2.0 shareable features. It allows users to host downloadable hi-res images within their releases, along with PowerPoint presentations, and PDFs - YouTube videos can also be embedded. Each brand using the service is assigned its own RSS feed, and press contacts can be reached via LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook.

Pressitt has enabled the UK government to make its first foray into the SMNR. The Digital Britain Final Report was also released via Pressitt, the Department of Health used the service to distribute a major Swine Flu announcement, and the Department for International Development revealed its new poverty action plan.

It's great to see more and more people talking about the social media news release format and hopefully posts like this will encourage and help people to see the potential and further evolve the SMNR format into something truly remarkable.

Andy Merchant @andymerch
Co-Founder and Director @pressitt

Great Debra,
Great question! Remember MySpace? That was customizable too - then came Facebook. Really, we think a clean storyboard is best - let the content do the talking. You can always grab a PitchEngine RSS feed and customize your own site to your heart's content. We also offer the ability to embed the newsroom on your current site.

I don't think the future of the web is about customization at all. In fact, I don't think my kids will have their own "websites" even.

Son: "Dad, you had a whole website? I mean, the whole thing!?"

Dad: "Yes, we actually had to build them and host them on "domains.""

Son: "Phew, crazy!"

As for analytic - yes we'll have full Google Analytics integration for every pitch (launching next week)! :)

Hi Jason, thanks for listening and adding your comment. The blog post answers were all written by Toby Dershowitz, and they represent her opinion. That said, thanks for letting us know about all of the PitchEngine abilities. I do think the traditional press release is dead as well - but the social media press release still is changing and growing.

What do you think about Toby's thought that services like PitchEngine will have to offer more design flexibility? Are you planning to offer that? I'm also curious if you will soon offer analytics for individual pieces of the SMPR. Thoughts?
