Nice summary, Zack. I found so many synergies between environmental principles and sustainable social media. Thanks for this perfect summary.

In establishing a sustainable strategy, allot depends on your company's emphasis & values: Is it "Social" or is it "Media"? A meaningful relationship must be built upon trust, conversation & content.

Mati -
"Trend towards being human" is a great one! I am definitely seeing that, but hadn't thought of it.

Mati and Michael - keeping up with the trends is hard - there's always too much reading to do. I love the way that Mati puts it into perspective. I'll add that I agree, and think about it as educating ourselves about trends so that we are developing a sound strategy using the most appropriate tools and strategic thinking for ourselves and our clients.
Thanks so much for stopping by, y'all!

Good thoughts! If you read the original article on sustainable businesses, there are a lot of great ideas that are applicable to social media in there, too.

I would say that applying environmental principles to your social media approach is another trend:

Grow sustainably
Find your niche
Establish roots

Debra some great points made as usual! Thanks!
Agree Michael - keeping up with the trends is a trend in itself. I think we are slowly heading towards a more educated use of social media. Sustainable also means reasonable and if the shoe does't fit don't wear it. These are great new tools, but if we don't keep our eye on the goal by developing a sound strategy the point is lost and the tools are wasted.
Also see a trend towards being human (how refreshing and a relief). Trial and error seems to be more accepted by companies and individuals. Presenting perfection all the time is out and human is in.
